Ahh hotels. They’re often the largest expense a trip will carry, but like anything else in life, there’s moments you should go big, or go home. Walking from dusk until dawn in an urban city may have you thinking, “Me want bed;” whereas, a hotel in a stunning location can be your ticket to an experience that will burn in your memory for a lifetime. Knowing when to drop that extra cash for that elevated experience, or not, is crucial. The below are my reviews to help you make that intelligent decision.
Ratings are based on location, from best to worst:
5) Ya only live once
4) Serious
3) Not too shabby
2) I’ve had better

SPITZKOPPE
Spitzkoppen Lodge
(Rating: Ya only live once)
When considering in visiting Spitzkoppe, there is the choice to make, do I a) make a daytrip, do I b) sleep at a campsite or do I c) stay in the spectacular Spitzkoppe Lodge. The choice is certainly yours; however, the views, comfort and overall experience made in the Spitzkoppe Lodge were unforgettable.
First off, this lodge is fresh, just built in Jan 2017. Secondly, you can clearly see that care was taken in construction, to reduce the impact to the environment. Thirdly, you are literally embedded partially on top of Spitzkoppe, and the views, are just fantastic. How about the rooms? Upon arrival, you are whisked away via golf cart to your chalet where once inside, you feel as if you were teleported into an uber modern room with all the imaginable creature comfort.
Returning back to the facilities, there are cool toilets / sinks both at the base and on top, where you will find the restaurant, which has fantastic decor, and a pool. The food is excellent and for dinner you will have the chef describe the dessert that has been prepared. Overall, the staff were fun, professional and a joy to spend time with. As a bonus, you will have Dassies as security during the day and an orchestra of Barking Geckos in the evening, which was awesome.
